Northside cottage extends over three floors. It is a lovely airy space with sofas and sea views from every room. There are exposed oak beams throughout; see if you can spot the use of old ship’s timbers in the topmost attic room.
Living room & kitchen: On the ground floor is the kitchen and living room with exposed beams, a polished slate floor and a beautiful stone fireplace and open fire. There are two comfy chesterfield sofas and a flatscreen smart TV with DVD, freeview and a selection of films. We’ve installed Netflix to help while away the evenings. The living room has a BT infinity broadband (superfast!) and WiFi.
A dining table and four chairs are by the bay window and you can watch the sun go down over the village whist you enjoy your food and wine. The furniture around the house is eclectic. In the living room are a number of Danish modern pieces and original art and prints on the walls.
Upstairs there are two further large double bedrooms and a luxury bathroom.
Attic bedroom: The romantic master bedroom takes up the whole of the top floor. The dormer window has a picture-postcard view over the Beck, Staithes harbour and Staithes village. The side window has a view directly out to sea, with a small sofa so you can enjoy the view. Here you can watch the coming and going of local fishing boats, and the ebb and flow of the tide. There are stripped oak floor boards, exposed roof beams and an antique walnut French double bed – with a double sprung and pocketed mattress. We have left a selection of literature, reference books and guides to the local area to help you make the most of your stay.
Second bedroom/living room: The first floor bedroom is a great room for children or two adults, and serves as a second sitting room with TV/DVD. There are two single beds, and a stylish Danish-modern sofa which doubles as a sofabed to accommodate another person.
We think this combination works really well for families with two or three children; where both children and adults need their own space. Equally, this is great cottage for a couple; with lots of space and amenities to relax. It doesn’t work for two couples unless you are happy with single beds.
Parking: Parking is at a premium in the village, but there is a parking permit that comes with the house. Cars can be parked a few yards along at the end of the nab, on the quayside. If you have more than one car, then extra parking is available in the paying car park for £4.00 per day or 300 yards up the hill (free car parking). Its a steep climb out of the village to reach the carparks (1:3), so the parking permit and parking facility is a great advantage.
